INTRODUCTION

Samantha Darcie Rock was born on October 27, 1999. She was raised in a small town in Douglasville, Georgia. She lives in a Caribbean household in which her family tree is majority Haitian and slightly French. Her father is from Cape-Haiti, her grandfather was from Haiti, her grandmother was from Cuba, her great-grandfather was French, and her mom is from Brooklyn, New York. She is the eldest of one other sibling in which her brother’s name is Jonathan.

Samantha came to know Christ when she was 9 years old and got baptized when she was 14 years old. She identifies herself as a devoted Pentecostal Christian.

Fun Fact: Samantha loves to read and draw in her free time. In addition, she played 3 instruments: drums, flute, and piano for years. She believes that it is due to both of her parents that played instruments. Her mom played the saxophone and her dad played the drums. Therefore, you can understand why Samantha has a deep love for music.

CHILDHOOD

For most of her life (in her entire primary and secondary education), she only attended private Christian schools.

Before the transition from middle school to high school, she moved to another location in Georgia. She relocated to a subdivision in Fulton County. Before and after the move, she had a difficult time with this new adjustment. But that did not stop her from becoming what she strived to be in life. To keep herself busy from the new change, Samantha was involved in almost everything such as joining and participating in SGA, National Honor Society, Beta Club, Chick-fil-A Leadership, band, and Mime Ministry Club (dance) for years. Because of her motivation and ambition, even through the trials and tribulations that had come along the way, she proudly graduated high school with a 4.0 GPA and highest honors.  She could not have done it without God and her family’s love and support.

AGNES SCOTT COLLEGE & FUTURE CAREER PATHWAY

Samantha is a proud Agnes Scott Scottie in which she is anticipating to graduate with her class of 2022. Due to Agnes Scott College’s amazing dual-degree nursing with Emory, she  finalized her decision to attend Agnes after graduation in 2018.

Her initial short-term goal was to become an RN (pediatric nurse specifically) with a minor in education, then work her way to further practice to get her Masters. However, a shift in perspectives and personal decisions occurred throughout her time in college.

After long considerations and other factors, she decided to change her major to Public Health with a minor in Biology. Although this was not the pathway she wanted initially, she decided that she wanted to make it work because she felt that the Lord led her there. Based on curiosity, she did apply for the Emory nursing program in which she did get accepted, however, she had already concluded her decision to explore other revenues. All is not lost because with all the goals she wants to accomplish by a certain age, she is determined and dedicated in achieving all of them, including becoming an elementary teacher and/or  pediatric nurse. *Side Note: Samantha loves children and hopes to pursue at least one of those (or any) careers that mainly works with children. Throughout college, she was faced with tough adult decisions and situations, but these only made her stronger and this is just the beginning of something magnificent.

PURPOSE OF MY PORTFOLIO

Follow Samantha through “The Directory of Wonderful Things” in her life. Explore a few academic accomplishments and important projects/papers she has done throughout her time in college. Although she has not been too much involved in in-campus activities and events, she has made it a point to strictly focus her love for overall education. Ambitiously, she is willing to continuously expand her knowledge. Due to her naturally reserved characteristic, she hopes that you will receive a glimpse of who she is.

Her portfolio will showcase several of her academic accomplishments and interests, especially in areas of her major in Public Health and minor in Biology. Because of her personal decision of change, she always remains optimistic in any situation because at the end of it all, she wants to finalize and pursue what makes her most happy and comfortable in the long run. After all, she hopes to inspire anyone that comes across her site, but especially those that are unsure and/or those that decides to change their major/minor.

 Enjoy!
